Green Renovation
For renovating her new storefront on West Third Street in the most eco-friendly way possible, Elaine Kim has enlisted the help of her husband, Rick Seireeni, a noted eco- branding expert and author of the green marketing book, The Gort Cloud. The goal is to remodel the new design studio and front gallery space with minimal environmental impact. Here is progress so far:

- Previous store fixtures given away through CraigsList (minimal debris going to landfill)
- Recyclable debris properly separated
- Solatubes® installed greatly reducing use of electric light during daytime
- Minimal wall construction and other material-intensive detailing
- Reuse of existing cabinets, fixtures and furniture from previous studio
- Use of non-VOC paints and floor finish (where possible) provided by Livingreen, Culver City
- Replacement of incandescent lights with CFLs and LEDs (where possible)
- Minimal alternation of existing facade
- Use of front-to-back natural ventilation techniques installed when the building was built in the 30s

Reusing and repurposing has been the guiding theme throughout this process. Check back for the results -- target date to move is the week of June 8th!

We're Moving!

Elaine Kim will relocate her design studio in mid-June to a wonderful, light-filled store-front in the bustling West Third shopping district. She plans to use the spare, gallery-like front showroom not only to showcase her seasonal collections, but also to host exhibitions for local and international artists, photographers, and fashion collections.
